So everyone knows New Adult is the thing in fiction these days. Every author on the planet seems to be scrambling to put out a NA title and for good reason: NA sells—insanely well. And NA readers are loyal—they like your book, they want another. And another. And another.

I totally hopped on the NA band wagon. For me, it was a no-brainer to make the leap from what I write under my other pen names to writing New Adult. I've written YA and I've written “young” contemporary romance—New Adult seemed to be a perfect complement to what I'd already been writing for a couple of years.

But, it's funny. As I've written more—and read more—I've come to realize that there seem to be sub-genres in the NA category; specifically, when it comes to sex.

I'm no prude. My books have sex scenes. Steamy sex scenes.

What I do not write is erotica.

How do I differentiate? I have a couple of things that trigger the difference between the two.

·       The story is predominately about sex between the two (or three...or four) main characters. Honestly, I need a story that is more than sex.
·       The sex in the book is over-the-top descriptive. Again, steamy sex is awesome but if I start reading about how people's body parts taste and/or kinky sex, that kind of crosses the line into erotica for me.
·       The language used to describe the sex scenes is graphic. Language never bothers me—ever—but certain words have much more of an erotic connotation than others.

So there you have it.

My New Adult books have strong characters dealing with real-life issues. There is always romance and, yep, there is always sex. But mine don't stray into the erotica side of New Adult. And they probably never will.

What they do have is good characters, strong plots, snappy dialogue and steamy fun.

And I'm more than okay with that kind of New Adult.

Cover Reveal: Icarus Rise by Frankie Rose

Cover REVEAL!!!

Title-Icarus Rise

By- Frankie Rose

Expected-Autumn 2013

Genre-New Adult

Blurb-

Iris Breslin is on a mission with only one goal: escape Breakwater, Wyoming, where her family’s horrific history is common knowledge. New York couldn’t be more different to her small town upbringing, but better still, absolutely no one at Syracuse University knows of the brutal murders her father committed before taking his own life when she was fourteen years old. For the first time, Iris has friends, a career plan, a regular life.

Until Jake.

Jake Stafford grew up in Breakwater. Discovering Charlie Breslin’s body on his first day as a cop may have snared Jake in the Breslin family nightmare, but the truth is that he was already involved long before. Now a part of the NYPD, Jake remains entangled in the five year old mystery—a mystery he intends to solve. That isn’t going to be an easy task, especially with Iris back in his life. Jake must fight to convince the girl he loves that his feelings are genuine, and not some sick obsession with a man who once helped him when no one else would. His hidden secrets are darker than Iris can possibly imagine, but can she drop her guard long enough to uncover them?

About the Author-

As a child, I was always accused of being bookish because I wore glasses- big, horrible, ugly ones with too-thick lenses. Those kids, the super smart ones who always know which tender insecurities to poke at in order to provoke life-long complexes, used to accuse me of reading too many books and that my eyes were going to rot out of my head (their words, not mine!)

The truth of the matter was a little more embarrassing: I used to sit too close to the T.V. That was the reason why I had to wear glasses, but kids don’t really care about small, insignificant details like the truth, and so I was labelled a nerd. The label kinda stuck, and after some sage advice from my awesome nana (nana, you rock!) I decided that if I was going to be abused for my supposed literary obsession, I might as well develop one.

I guess that’s how I got into books and reading at an early age. Since then, I’ve been ripping through books like they’re going out of fashion, which, thankfully, they’re not. Good thing, too, because I’m a writer now, and books are my business!

Prologue of Breathe Me

Here it is! As promised, the prologue for Breathe Me. Hope you likes!

Breathe Me
by Alexia Purdy

Add it to Goodreads

Prologue

STANDING ON THE slick, damp rocks smoothed over by centuries of wind tossed waves, my heart stopped. Piper wore nothing but her swimsuit and the temperature was cool enough to make our noses blush pink. Hunger lingered in her eyes, making my own desire burn through me, the frigid air forgotten in the heat of a deep ache and longing pummeling me unexpectedly. I ran to her, embracing her thin frame and attempted to stifle the goose bumps flaring across her skin. We were on vacation on one of my favorite beaches of the Oregon coast. A place to forget the insanity of college life.

The alcove was a small private beach, free from any barrage of tourists. Leading her over the mess of rocks and sand to the blanket I had set out for our picnic, I carefully cradled her body as we slipped down onto it, our lips devouring each other’s until they felt down right bruised. Hers were bright pink, full and swollen from my assault as I explored them. Our skins had turned from frozen to searing, the wind all but forgotten except for toying with the ends of her long brown hair with unseen fingertips. It lay fanned out underneath us, a warm pillow for her head.

I’d never met anyone like Piper. She was the vision of my dream woman, the one I never knew I had wanted; always spontaneous and filled with a vibrant life force so few possess. I reached over and undid the ties to her bikini, raking my fingers down her sides, desperate to devour every last bit. She was soft and her curves supple against the hard rocks pressing on us. We didn’t care, we were lost to the world. We could’ve jumped up and rushed into the aged beach house a few yards away, where the fire burned warm and the bed creaky but comfy, yet even that was not a concern. All that mattered was kissing her, everywhere, everyplace in every way to make sure some sort of fiery warmth caressed the cold away and our wanting satisfied.

Shivering from my touch, she opened her hooded eyes, glazed with lust and most definitely matching my own. Her fingers curled around my blonde hair, as she whispered my name “Sasha…” before her voice ebbed away and my lips found hers once more. It was there that I gave away my heart, before all the wrong snaked into our lives back home. Before all the flighty decisions and selfishness had sent us spiraling into oblivion, leaving us broken. I wanted it back, all the ‘before’ and ‘once upon a time’s’. I still did, now more than ever before. Salvaging our hearts made me determined, it was the only way either of us could really live again.

Review of Raksha by Frankie Rose

Raksha by Frankie Rose

PURCHASE on AMAZON

My Review

Wowzers! Absolutely amazing! Frankie Rose has outdone herself in this tantalizing story of what it’s like to be a gladiator style fighter in the post-apocalyptic world. The city of Sanctuary is painted out for the reader in mesmerizing detail down to the dirty details of slavery on a whole new level.

Kit, who’s one of the best arena fighters in Sanctuary, wears a halo, which numbs it’s wearer from feeling any kind of emotion when it pumps drugs into her system at the first sign of any feelings. This also helps her kill without remorse, without any kind of hesitation. The ultimate fighter. This isn’t her doing though, she is Falin, a sort of slave. Her practice partner and good friend Cai has just ripped the halo’s grip from her neck, right before he dies at her hands in the arena, which sends her life spiraling out of the sweet control she’s used to.

Everything she knew was a lie. Every emotion she’d been spared for years comes rushing in all at once. Cai’s last wish was for her to escape Sanctuary and ‘live’ like she rightfully should- without the halo. But the world outside of Sanctuary is not easy and could very well be more dangerous in the tent city of Freetown, where the pits parallel Sanctuary in more ways than one, and the horrors of it can very well exceed it.

What a gripping tale, I found myself immersed in Kit’s world and felt for her. The way she reacts to the new feelings and the shock of what is really true about Sanctuary and Freetown, I don’t know how she deals so well with it. Actually, she really doesn’t, Freetown is insane! The dangers lurking around every corner had me hoping Kit would make it out alive.

The first person she meets outside Sanctuary-Ryka- isn’t all that he seems to be. The conflict between these two is constant, but I found myself cheering them on as their relationship develops. Ryka is one of the fighters in Freetown and can grate on Kit’s nerves or send her reeling with one word.

Olivia was probably my favorite character, her cheerful demeanor and giving attitude had me hoping nothing bad would happen to her. She’s also Ryka’s sister, obsessed with finding her mother, who disappeared into the dangerous forest surrounding Freetown.

All in all, the journey was extraordinary. Kit grows so much throughout the story that I really hoped she wouldn’t ever go back to Sanctuary for any reason. But, like anyone with ties that run deep, returning is the only thing that’s for certain for her.

The ending was so full of twists and shocks, I was left absolutely screaming for the next book already. I really pray that there is one, the way it leaves you with a ‘what just happened?’ kind of shocker. It just better not be a long wait!
5 STARS all the way!

Raksha Blog Tour Feature!

Raksha By Frankie Rose
Feature and excerpt
(Review to come...)

PURCHASE LINKS

RAKSHA BLURB:

She has no name.

She has her knives, her training, and her halo.

The first and second give her the ability to defeat the opponents she is pitted against each month. The third frees her from pain and fear. From any kind of emotion at all. Everything is as it should be. Everything is as it should be, until…

Fear… Pain… Anger… Happiness… Desire… Guilt…

Love.

When a newly named Kit escapes the Sanctuary after killing her best friend, the last thing she needs is another knife in her hand. Or Ryka, the damaged, beautiful blond boy, whom she refuses to let save her. The sights and sounds of Freetown are new, yet one thing is familiar: the matches. The only difference? Where the blood in the Sanctuary landed only on the Colosseum floor, Kit will quickly learn that a river of red runs through Freetown’s very streets.

Without her halo, the inhabitants of Kit’s new home consider her saved, but is that really the case? Would she be better off free of the guilt associated with all the blood on her hands, or is the love of one boy worth living through all the pain?

Raksha is the call of the dead. It is the rumbling chant for fresh blood from the other side, the demand for sacrifice. The Colosseum is behind Kit. The fighting pits await.

Raksha EXCERPT:
I focus on him and clench my dagger in my hand. The sea of voices swells, and I’m certain I can pick out Miranda’s deranged shrieking, yelling over and over again, “End him! End him!”

Falin Asha’s brown eyes fix on me and it looks for a second like he’s crying. That can’t be right, though. I hover just out of his reach, staring at him. “What’s going on?”

He smiles crookedly and brushes his hair back out of his face. “It’s going to be okay, all right? Remember that.”

I’m so thrown by his comment that I am utterly unprepared for what he does next. The knife in his hand snakes out toward me, and I skitter away from him to the left. He knows how I react, however, and he moves with me, my mirror image. He darts for me and does the unthinkable, something that spells the end to the fight and me along with it: he grabs hold of my striking arm at the wrist. A low gasp runs around the Colosseum, growing in pitch until it’s a rushing echo in my ears. I try and fumble for the Balisong on my belt, hoping I can flick it open and use it, but Falin Asha is there before me. He doesn’t knock my hand away, just holds his over it. He pulls me closer to him and sucks in a deep breath.

“Don’t let them see,” he hisses. With that, I feel a twisting movement between our two bodies, and then his eyes go wide. He looks stunned, the way Elin children do when they fall and they’re unsure whether they’re supposed to cry or not. I look down and see his own knife submerged up to the handle in his stomach. A cracking, bubbling noise comes out of his throat, and he smiles slowly at me. The whole Colosseum has gone deadly silent. I can think nothing other than this: What have you done? What on earth have you gone and done?
